Currently retired, Barbara Mitchell is the former Executive Director of International Action Network for Gender Equity & Law in Berkeley, California and former Executive Director of Community Legal Services and Counseling Center (now known as DeNovo Center for Justice and Healing) in Cambridge Massachusetts. She was previously the Managing Attorney of the Family Law Unit at Greater Boston Legal Services, where she worked for more than twenty years. She has experience working on women’s issues, including access to health care, in Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Indonesia, Mexico, and Myanmar. She has a BA from University of Michigan, JD from Boston University Law School, and an LLM from Harvard Law School with a concentration in law and development in low-income countries.
